Where will baby sleep?

Even though we have a nursery all set up (and ready to reveal, soon!) for our little man, we decided that we want him to sleep in our room for the first few months. We figure it will make those nighttime feedings much more do-able, plus I am sure we'll just want to know he is okay throughout the night.

So in my crazy nesting mode, I carved out a little space for his cradle and a rocker to soothe him back to sleep. I wanted to keep the space minimalistic, since it is only temporary, but also wanted to add a little bit of magic to it since it's where he'll sleep during his first sleeps out in the world. I added a beautiful handmade tapestry from Etsy that has some gold flecks in it, gold stars from West Elm & a quirky piece of artwork that Matt and I picked up traveling upstate to make the space feel like his own.

Where did your little one sleep? I'd love to hear all of your experiences!

My Fox Themed Baby Shower!

My mom and my two cousins threw me a beautiful baby shower this past weekend, so of course I had to share some photos! My cousin Lauren put so much heart into it, I felt like she had me completely in-mind for every little touch she added. I am usually not super emotional, but I was so overwhelmed with how much time and thought they put into it, that I started to cry when I walked in! *pregnancy hormones*

They said that they chose polka dots because they've been my favorite for my entire life, and after they saw the nursery they added on the foxes to the theme! They served cute brunch food (bagels, a froyo bar, lite bites) and then the most adorable dessert table. You bet your ass I tried every single one of the desserts, especially after finding out I don't have GD! I'm sorry for the overload of photos, but there were far too many to cut it completely down!

My cousin Lauren, the party planner! I wore this adorable maternity dress from ASOS. I loved this one and this one as well, and knew I wanted to wear some kind of sequins!

My best friend Alex flew in from Florida, and we spent the morning making flower crowns. Of course we had to make one for Claudie girl as well!

My cousin Karen used my instagram to make this adorable week-to-week display!

Karen is pregnant also (and giving birth next week!!!!) so it was adorable having these two little guys in the same room to celebrate. We'll have to show them this picture when they are born.

It was so nice having all of my cousins there. We got married in Florida, so a ton of them couldn't make it to my bridal shower (it was more friends) but now that we live up here, I get to have my family by my side for everything.

Matt came at the end with some of the husbands to eat dessert. All-in-all it was a beautiful, perfect day! We're so excited by how loved our baby already is, and even more excited to meet him now!

Why I Don't Enjoy Being Pregnant, And That's OK.

The other night I woke up in the middle of the night (for the 1093298 time), and I was sweating. I had a nightmare, something related to my pregnancy, and for a second I thought it was just a dream, but I felt my belly and it was still there. Suddenly, this full body, totally gripping fear seeped through my blood -- I am going to have to push this baby out of me. He is going to have to exit, and it's up to me to make that happen.

This is the first time since being pregnant that I really felt that kind of fear, but as my due date approaches, it seems like a natural feeling. I've never had stitches, never broken a bone, I am CAUTIOUS, and careful and I avoid pain at all costs. So the fear of labor just makes sense to me.

Pregnancy is so glamorized in social media nowadays, heck I do it too. The bump shots, the calm photos of mom cradling her belly, the social media people we follow who are back to their old selves in under a week. Of course I am grateful for this little guy, of course I love him and OF COURSE I realized pregnancy wouldn't be easy (and that being a mother is going to be even harder), but I am also for some reason overcome with the feeling of guilt because society teaches us that we have to feel a certain way about certain life events, and that is just not true!

I am sure that the baby I will get to raise at the end of this will be more than worth the struggle, but that doesn't mean it isn't a struggle, and that the feelings us preggo ladies feel don't mean anything. The 1st trimester is rough - there's so much anxiety, so much nausea and hunger, so much change to our bodies. The second trimester (for me) was a battle against the scale - I knew how much time I had left to be pregnant, and I didn't want to feel immobile by the beginning of my 3rd trimester. So I pushed myself to exercise, and to eat right, and to make sure that I wasn't giving up because of how tired and uncomfortable I was feeling. Of course this isn't everyone's path or choice, but it was mine.

And now - now if I put together furniture and bend too much, I need a nap. I can't run, my clothing doesn't fit me, I can hardly breathe, sleep doesn't happen, indigestion and heartburn is constant, and I know I don't have it half as bad as some other women out there! I am not trying to rant or complain, I just wanted to say that it's okay to dislike being pregnant, even if society says it isn't. It's okay to be scared. I'm scared. But I know in the end it will be worth it.

Two Shoes/ Two Ways W/ Lucky Brand

* I teamed up with my friends at to bring you this post! Thanks for supporting my sponsors!

I cannot BELIEVE September is around the corner, but I would be lying if I told you I wasn't excited for the temps to drop. Of course, like every other blogger (and person) out there, I'm excited for the leaves to change, PSL's, carving pumpkins, etc. but this year I am even more amped because A. it sucks being preggo in the summer and B. my due date is quickly approaching! Naturally my eyes have been open for some Fall shoes to add to my collection, and I love how cute and comfy these Lucky Brand flats are (and perf for pregnancy) and these AMAZING pointed boots.

Since getting around is becoming more tiring these days, I picked these up at Zappos. Like always, they showed up super quickly and shipped for free. Plus Zappos has a 365 day return policy... insanity! I am sure I will have this combo on repeat most of Fall, especially since not much fits these days ;)

Madewell Maternity!

It happened - the greatest thing to ever happen to Maternity clothing! Madewell made MATERNITY JEANS, and just in time for the upcoming Fall, when I just so happen to be preggers. Let's just say I yelped when I found out... and I'm here to give you the scoop on the different styles, and how they fit.

The great thing about these jeans are that they are pull on, so no zip-up with a button like some other maternity jeans, but they look pretty much like regular jeans. You can still tuck your shirt in the front, and look stylish.

In these pictures, I am wearing the skinny jeans in juliet wash, which seem the most everyday friendly to me. I love that the ankles are still skinny (most maternity jeans are soo wide by the ankle) and the jeans are slimming and have the perfect amount of stretch. They also sit higher on your back, and lower in the front, which is so comfortable, so you aren't constantly having to pull them up. These come in black also, which looks super cute with black pointy boots and a sweater for Fall.

I also tested out these demi-boot jeans, which have a cute cropped leg with a mini bell bottom flare on the bottom. They're adorable for a laid back summer look, and look perfect with strappy sandals.

This weekend I am 29 weeks, can you believe it?! We have a birthing class tomorrow, and next weekend is my baby shower! I am looking forward to trying to take it easy more for the home stretch! It isn't easy for me to relax. haha!

This Jumpsuit & NYC Summer

This jumpsuit is everything. It's chic, comfortable, stylish and best of all, I can still wear it. I wish I could have it in a ton of colors and patterns, because it's the closest piece to perfection that I've found in a while!

NYC has been hot, and I can't lie, I am excited for the temps to drop a bit. 65 degrees sounds just perfect for me! Can you guys believe it's mid-August already?! I can't either.

My Second Trimester Recap + Essentials!

Here I am, saying goodbye to the second trimester and feeling pretty shocked at how quickly it flew by. Just this week, two instagrammers that I follow went into labor - 1 at 35 weeks and the other at 38 weeks, and it's hitting me that this guy is going to be here in the blink of an eye. I'm starting to feel like I know him a little bit, because he's so active now. I think he's going to be calm, because he isn't too crazy in there. My mom always talks about how my brothers kicked her non-stop, and it was painful, but he's relatively chill. I think I felt his leg poke out today, and when Matt tried to listen for his heartbeat on my belly last night he got kicked, which was pretty funny.

How far along? 28 weeks this weekend
Weight gain? Around 17 lbs
What am I wearing? I am still squeezing into some of my non-preg clothes like overalls and maxi skirts with elastic waistbands, but I am mostly in maternity clothes now & clothes sized up.
Movement? He is kicking and rolling and punching up a storm. Last week he started to respond to music, and when I play The Weepies or classical music he goes wild! He also responds to me pushing on my stomach. I can actually FEEL his head now, because he's currently sitting breech, which is pretty insane.
Cravings? Not any!!
How do I feel? I feel pretty good and can't complain. Keeping up with cardio and weights has definitely helped keep aching down. I've pretty much switched from running to the elliptical just this week, because of the pressure on my pelvis. I've been sleeping through the night. My complaints are just feeling really big and missing my pre-preg body, and heartburn/indigestion. Tums are my friend. I am not one of those people who is like "OMG I LOVE BEING PREGNANT," I find it really uncomfortable, and not very glamorous. The belly is cute, but I am looking forward to just being me again!
What I'm looking forward to? My baby shower in a few weeks!! Matt and I also have a birthing class coming up, and we're almost done with the nursery! I also love shopping for him, it makes me giddy.

Here's some things I used a lot/ read:

1. Register with the site! It makes registering so much easier, and you can keep the things you want from multiple sites all in one place!

2. I couldn't find cute maternity jeans until this pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans from Tilden. They're basically all I need for this entire pregnancy as far as jeans go.

3. These shorts from ASOS are amazing, I can't wait to rock them with tights when it's chillier out. Plus they're on sale!

4. I read this book, and feel a bit less nervous about labor because of it!

5. Comfy shoes are a must, and these were mine. They're so trendy, but also easy to wear around!

6. I can't say enough good things about this tummy butter. I have zero stretch marks so far!

7. I read this as an audio book, and laughed the entire time. It's great, and doesn't sugar coat anything!

I'll pop back in with another update on the pregnancy some time in the third trimester! I know not everyone will be interested in these posts, but I love reading back on them from other bloggers I followed during pregnancy! :)

My Last Trip Before Baby: California

For my final flight on an airplane before baby comes, we took a trip to LA/ San Luis Obispo for our friends wedding! Matt and I (and our best friends Alex & Doug) rented a car, and drove upcoast about 2 hours to an airbnb near the wedding. It was amazing to be surrounded by friends, and everyone got to "meet" the baby for the first time - I think he knew he was getting extra attention because he kicked a ton.

We spent the day before the wedding exploring in Pismo beach, and had a yummy breakfast at Honeymoon Cafe. I really wanted to try some cinnamon rolls, but being pregnant makes me full so fast + indigestion meant I had to pass. Pretty sad!

^^ Preggo bridesmaid gets peach soda!!

Our last day, we went by the Madonna Inn, which we heard so much about! It was SO quaint, and I had fun peeking into all of the rooms. A lot of the wedding party spent time by the pool, and there's also a cute restaurant for brunch!

It feels good to be home and relaxing now, and I can feel myself slowing down a bit. I can't believe I'm entering into my third trimester!! I'll post more on that soon!
